THE FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT COLLECTION
California Block House Lanterns |
In the early 1920's Wright lived for a short while in Southern California. During this time, he created a system of home construction using what he called "Textile Blocks". These blocks were cast concrete construction blocks, with a patterned exterior surface; some had perforations to allow light to pass through.
Wright designed and built four homes during this time, all in Southern California. He also designed a buiding called the Community Playhouse that was never constructed.
Adapted are the five patterns from these structures into tabletop, cast stone lanterns. They are shipped with a candle and can be placed indoors or out.
The patterns, pictured from left to right, are:
Ennis House, Community Playhouse, Millard House, Storer House and the Freeman House. We also offer a combination lantern that has a different pattern on each side which we call the California Block House Model.
