Dard Hunter 1883 - 1966 American Craftsman Artist Papermaker Printer Dard Hunter was a unique phenomenon in American graphic arts, having been a major influence in the American Arts and Crafts Movement, as well as having written hundreds of articles and eighteen books, eight of which he printed on a hand press with his own hand-cut types and handmade papers. Much of the interest and enthusiasm that artisans today have for hand papermaking and printing revert to him, who was largely responsible for the establishment in this country, if not abroad, of what might be termed a graphic art "Renaissance," by applying sixteenth century production methods to the art of the book.
