When items ship from our location, we go the extra mile in packing your item(s) so they will arrive in pristine condition.
Many of our items are shipped direct from either the individual Craftsman who makes it or from its manufacturer. Very often, it is the Craftsman or manufacturer who know best how to pack their items.
We certainly wished that we could hand deliver your item, but as you can imagine, that would be impractical (and expensive).
So the next best option is to use one of the many ship and delivery services available. Many of our suppliers who drop ship will use who they are most comfortable with.
We recognize that the conscientiousness of delivery services and personnel can vary. Simply put...delivery damage can occur and is unpredictable. If and when damage occurs, OPHH will do everything possible to help with the situation and either get your item repaired or replaced as soon as possible. The same applies to items that may become lost in shipment.
Items are typically shipped via UPS Ground or USPS Priority when shipped from Oak Park Home & Hardware. All shipments shipped UPS or FedEx are shipped "signature not required" unless requested otherwise from purchaser. Release signature means that a signature is not required and at the discretion of the UPS or FedEx driver, the package will be left. Purchasers can request that the package be signed for in the comments section at checkout, by phone or email. Customers may also request that a package be left without a signature. In this case, the UPS may not be comfortable leaving the package without a signature but shall because of the customer request. Oak Park Home & Hardware shall not be responsible for any possible theft or mishap with the delivery. When drop shipped directly from one of our suppliers, your shipment may be with either UPS Ground, FedEx Ground. PLEASE OPEN AND INSPECT ALL PACKAGES IMMEDIATELY UPON RECEIPT. There is typically a 3-day window of time to file a damage claim with delivery services.
In some cases, our suppliers may drop ship items on our behalf and require an adult signature upon delivery. We expect that our customers will make arrangements for receiving their delivery and provide a ship to address where a signiture can be recorded.
On occasion, OPHH may select to ship your item(s) via USPS. This is true for smaller, lighter items, as well as items shipped internationally.
Many items that we offer are too large and heavy for standard shipment methods and must be shipped via freight delivery. Shipping costs for freight delivery is based upon the following factors:
1) Item size and weight
2) Ship to location (business or residential)
3) Optional residential lift gate delivery
Items that must be shipped via freight truck are typically indicated with a "Contact For Quote" notation on this site.
Items that must be shipped via freight delivery is by quote and based upon the item's origin and the complete ship to location address. Please contact us for a shipping quote. We do not typically mark up freight delivery costs and offer it as a pass through cost. Note: shipping to a business with a loading dock is typically less cost than a residential delivery.
SOMEONE MUST BE PRESENT TO ACCEPT A FREIGHT DELIVERY. Freight delivery is curbside delivery only and delivery personnel are only required to deliver the item to the site. It is the customer recipient responsibility to take it from there. Unpacking or uncrating is not the responsibility of the freight company or Oak Park Home & Hardware, Inc. Please make sure to have your own people to help with a delivery upon delivery. Most carriers will contact the recipient prior to delivery in order to make a delivery appointment (additional charge may be required for advanced notification).
Note: Freight shipping costs have varied quite a bit over the past year or so because of fluctuating fuel costs. OPHH reserves the right to change or modify shipping costs at any time.
Some customers prefer to pick up their item(s) at our showroom. In this case we would contact you when your item(s) arrive. We will then facilitate a convenient time for pick up. Please note that in some cases, shipping costs may still apply. We hand deliver items within the Oak Park/River Forest areas.
Note: IL State sales tax will apply to any item(s) picked up at our showroom (currently 10%).
Oak Park Home & Hardware can ship internationally to some countries. Please inquire prior to placing your order. Please do not place your order online and make the assumption that we can ship to your international location.
Oak Park Home & Hardware will typically ship via UPS Standard or USPS for International shipments (unless a special request is made).
Our International customers are fully responsible for any possible "residual" tax tarrif, or customs fees from this shipment. On rare occassion, OPHH will receive a customs fee invoice from the carrier many weeks after shipment. The customer/recipient will be responsible for any and all of these charges (if they occur).
